Networking: The Magic Connection
How valuable is networking in finding a new job and/or increase
sales? It's a rhetorical question. But how about using the same
techniques to find the best doctors, lawyers, accountants? Even
the best homes and schools as well as jobs?
Not only is it a possibility, it's a certainty, according to public
relations exec Rick Frishman and marketing consultant Jill Lublin,
if you follow the formula outlined in their high-powered Networking
Magic (Adams Media).
A front-cover blurb from literati heavyweight John "Men
Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus" Gray says this
book "will change your life." On the back cover, Harvey
"Swim with the Sharks Without
Being Eaten Alive" Mackay states, "Networking will
change your life, and this book will get you started." In its
first eight pages 41 equally well-known authors and business leaders
sing the same praiseful refrain. And speaking about practicing what
you preach, I counted a networking community of no less than 127
friends and contributors the authors acknowledge, "made the
book possible."
There's nothing particularly mysterious about networking. It's
"the process of building and maintaining relationships,"
the authors say. Where the magic comes in, is how you do it. Starting
with the basic fundamentals of networking the book is separated
into five categories: cold calls, leads, cold introductions, warm
introductions and personal introductions. Chapters are devoted to
such subjects as approaching the best targets, evaluating networking
groups and events, and networking do's and don'ts. At the end of
each chapter a series of action steps summarize suggestions and
mark the reader's progress.
A valuable tool for marketing yourself and/or your business, here's
networking legerdemain that can advance your career andis
it possible?change your life.
